Cage shoes

Those who have been visiting this blog for a while may have noticed my interest (to avoid saying obsession) for cage shoes and dresses inspired by architectural structures, all things that look geometrical and 3d and make me think at origami.
These shoes do enter in this category. These shoes look like a pair of pumps trapped in a cage or put in a scuptural box. This original design is signed Andreia Chaves who soon will produce her first collection in a limited edition.

The japanese armor sweater DIY

In front of a sweater i always had the impulse to discover if it was possible to cut it as a normal fabric and rework it. I did. I've bought a long sweater (actually 2, i needed 1 and 1/2 sweater to finish my project) and i've cut it with no mercy.
The inspiration was all the scuptural knitwear i've seen recently and the work of Simone Shailes, the cape she designed for Topshop in 2008.When i saw it was love at first sight, this diy is a tutorial to make a sweater that remembers that one.

I've taken the cardigan and i've start cutting it, i choosen to make a short outerwear sweater with 3/4 sleeves. I've cut the the remaining pieces into strips and i've secured the ends with the zig zag stitch. I've start sewing the loops over the sweater. The best thing about this sweater is the effect it does when you move. The loops follow the movement,it would be perfect for dance.
I'll try to make some pics jumping and moving to let you see the effect.
The experiment i wanted to try is rework a cardigan, the fun was to see something beyond what i was looking at the moment, was to see a different potential in a normal cardigan; if you want to try this you can make the loops knitting them and then sewing them onto a sweater. The back of the cardigan is completely flat. The fierceness of the sweater is into the shoulders that are really in the spotlight. What the sweater became in the end is a wool armor.

In these pics even the bugnato clutch make its appereance.
This bag i've designed is inspired by studs and origami fashion. The idea was to take the softness of fabric and trasform it in the rigidity of geometry. The result is an aggressive bag that looks like a weapon, like a rectangular morning star.

The clear crystal rain coat DIY

Hello sweet readers today i would like to share with you my lasted diy. It's a rain coat.
It is inspired at the work of Irina Shaposhnikova Crystallographica.

I was amazed by her work but i knew i would not find anything that looked like this in the market, this is her graduation collection so i tried with some good old fashion geometry to make a an inspired design i thought it would make a fantastic clear rain coat,i thought the clear would give the crystal look to it.
Believe it or not it's made with plastic tablecloths sold by meters,i got 2 meters for 5 euros.
I've made a paper pattern, then i've numbered and copied all the pieces, put it on the plastic with paper scotch and then cut leaving seam allowance. Then i've sewn all the pieces together with the paper on and then i've taken off the paper.

I had to make some fixing moving from the 2d pattern to the 3d coat.
It's been an adventure to come to the end because i've started with an idea in mind but in the making i had to find solutions to problems as they presented.
This coat still needs the closure,i still not have in mind the solution to this problem because i don't want to ruin the simmetry of the coat,i'll use maybe a transparent zipper or plastic hooks i'm still thinking.

Origami T-shirts

Another psot on origami fashion but it's something i'm really interested right now.
I saw this project and i'm really jealous i have no sotware like the one it has been used to make these t-shirts.It would be impossible to project a cloth with all these pieces just with human brain.Modern softwares for pattern making use body scanner, then with the program you can draw the cloth you want and then print it. Perfect fit is assured.

The Digital T-shirt Project, by Mashallah Design and Linda Kostowski, is an interesting integration of fashion and technology. Using the data from three scanned human bodies, a digital pattern is created. The pattern is then laser cut into multiple pieces and then sewn together to create the final garment. The result is a origami-esque sculptural wearable.

The power of felt

The felt is a fabric made of compressed wool fibers. The main use of it are hats but it's very versatile and the possibility to keep a shape make it suitable for scuptural pieces and origami experiments

Il feltro è costituito da fibre di alna compresse.Viene utilizzato soprattutto per la produzione di cappelli ma èmolto versatile e la sua capacità di mantenere la forma lo rende adatto per vestiti scultura di inspiraizone origami

Felt patterns

Fantastic felt origami coats and jackets by Alexandra Verschueren
These coats are dynamic,as you can see some of them have an appereance closed, kind of classic but when opened reveal their uniqueness.
What i can say of the white coat?Fantastic, the body is essential, the neck undefined, the design unisex, all to exalt the bold unexpeted statement sleeves

Fantastici cappotti stile origami by Alexandra Verschueren

Origami fashion part 2

I'm still obsessed with origami fashion. I like the way fabric is transformed in a rigid material like paper(some of the dresses above are made of paper). I like the geometric repetition, the bold effect it makes. They're more like scuptures than dresses. I don't know if they exalt a woman's figure because the dress draws all the attention but i find them inspiring.

Look at these cute rings we can do on our own. We can print these schemes on a piece of cardboard or plastic and fold these ring. It's seems pretty easy and creative. Once you figure out the concept you can project your own or buy the kit here.
