Felt is so fascinating! It can be moulded with steam or hot water and keeps the shape when dried. I wanted to make a felt hat for a while. I read about it online to figure out how to do it and I found very useful resources (especially this video and this tutorial) then I tried to reduce the necessary steps to make the process the easiest possible without using any specific tools or shapers but only things I got at home.
After doing it I have to say it wasn't difficult and I can't wait to try again.
Si può fare un cappello in casa? Online ho trovato informazioni molto utili a riguardo (specialmente questo video e questo tutorial). Dopo essermi documentata ho tentato di rendere il processo più semplice possibile utilizzando oggetti trovati in casa.
La materia prima per fare un cappello è il fetro che può essere modellato con il vapore o l'acqua calda e poi mantiene la forma una volta asciutto.

The inspiration : Givenchy cat hat
You'll need:
- a wool felt sheet (not acrylic, it can't be mould)
- a bowl (choose one that fits your head)
- something to hold the bowl, I used a big pot
- a piece of fabric
- paper scotch to hold everything in place
- pins
- white glue
Vi serviranno
- un foglio di feltro di lana, lo trovate in merceria (non acrilico perchè altrimenti non si modellerà)
- una ciotola come forma (provatela come cappello per vedere se è della dimensione giusta)
- un barattolo o un vaso come stand
- scotch carta per tenere tutto insieme
- un pezzo di stoffa
- spilli
- colla vinilica
Now don't laught, this is a quick, homemade hat shaper, not pretty but did the job.
I put the bowl over the pot and then covered the bowl with fabric so it can hold the pins.
Mettete la ciotola sopra lo stand e la stoffa sopra la ciotola (per fissarci gli spilli).
Fissate tutto con lo scotch carta.
The hat shape
Dip your felt sheet into hot water then squeeze it to take off the excess.
Immergete il foglio di feltro nell'acqua calda e strizzatelo.
Put it on your shaper.
Adagiatelo sulla forma.
Block it with pins.
All you have to do now is pull the felt down and block it with more pins.
As you pull the felt stretches and you get a surface without wrinkles and curls.
When you get enough height to cover your head leave the felt dry overnight.
Fissatelo con gli spilli.
Ora tirate il feltro verso il basso in tutte le direzioni e mano a mano bloccatelo con gli spilli.
Otterrete una superficie liscia e senza pieghe.
Quando avrete l'altezza giusta per coprire la testa lasciate il feltro ad asciugare per una notte. 
Cut all the excess felt (cut all the curly edge)
Tagliate il feltro in eccesso.
I used the remaining felt to make a peaked cap, I sewed the two together.
Sew a gros grain all around the edges and a trim all around the brim.

Seguendo la moda del momento potete aggiungere al cappello un paio di divertenti orecchie da gatto.
Sew the cat ears over the hat.
Sono delle piccole piramidi, fissatele sul cappello con qualche punto.
Fix the hat shape
Now the hat will be sensitive to humidity and water so in order to set the shape forever I put some white glue into the water, not too much or it will stain the hat and brushed it on the inside of the hat.
Per evitare che il feltro perda la forma alla prima pioggia dobbiamo fissarla. Mescolate un po' di colla vinilica all'acqua, non troppa mi raccomando altrimenti macchierete il cappello, lasciate la soluzione abbastanza liquida e spennellate l'interno del cappello.
