the quick way to build volume: Bumpits

Dean and Dan Caten's woman for fall 2013 comes right from the fifties and sports a sophisticate Grease look completed by a big hairdo. How can we copy this look at home?

How to make big hair
  • Divide the hair at the top (from the hairline till the top of ears) into horizontal sections
  • Tease each wisp  from the top down
  •  Once you finished making the "nest", spray it with an aerosol hairspray
  • then smooth out the hair on top of the nest.

Refined hairstyles like this one can really boost our look but can be difficult to do at home. Hair straighteners and curlers have made our lives a lot easier because not everyone's bestfriend is an hairstylist, isn't it Jessica Simpson? Surfing the web I found this hair tool called Bumpits that should allow us to obtain big hair skipping the teasing process. These hair lifters are inserted under the top hair giving istant volume. This is hair architecture! But will the structure hold up? I don't know right know but the price of this miracle in a box is so little that we just have to try it! What do you think? Have you tried them yet? Will they stay in place?

Come cotonare i capelli
  • Concentratevi sui capelli dall'attaccatura fin sopra le orecchie
  • Separate le ciocche in sezioni orizzontali

Fun cloudy nails DIY

nails diy, diy nails, diy, MY DIY, pastel colors, pastel trend, clouds, naif, kawaii nails, manicure, cloudy nails, nails tutorial, fashion diy

While waiting for the warm weather I painted a blue sky over my nails with some harmless white clouds. After applying a a layer of baby blue, dip a pin into the white nail polish and draw over the nails with a small zig-zag movement to obtain a cloud shape. Place other clouds randomly over your nails. I find this manicure fun, naif and mood lifting. As you can see from above I'm totally in love with the pastel color trend.

My shoes on Swide.com

d g tribute shoes, dolce e gabbana, dolce gabbana magazine, dolce gabbana tribute, MY DIY, swide, tribute shoes

As a huge D&G fan I designed a while ago a pair of shoes inspired by their logo. There is a strange thrill of excitement in wearing a much desidered designer cloth, a funny feeling similar to floating on air. We love shoes and their height is something addictive, once we get used to it we want to experiment higher and higher heels. Cesare Paciotti once said that women are meant to walk on heels and that he wanders why they haven't been created with an embedded heel on their feet. We like how it feels to be taller maybe because we can look down on everyone.  That is why I drawn the D&G tribute shoes very high because the woman that wears them feels fierce and powerful, like a giant between other humans. She carries the D&G logo around the city proud to be their testimonial, a devoted fan almost a follower of a religion of style.
The super kind Swide team liked my tribute as a fan and dedicated to my drawing a page on the super cool Dolce&Gabbana magazine. I feel honored and thrilled exactly like I'd feel if I was wearing D&G.
And now, if you like, have a look at the tribute shoes I drawn on Swide.

DIY idea: the embellished hat

Anna Dello Russo wearing Balenciaga hat

Here is Anna Dello Russo wearing Darth Vader mask a hat that remains me an oyster. Like the oyster hides a pearl inside, this hat holds a secret, a cave full of sequins. The shape of this hat is definitely too dramatic for daily use but Nicolas Gesquiere, with his daring design, gives us a precious DIY tip : decorate the inside instead of the outside of an hat. You'll be able to make a unique hat, a jewel for your head.

Penumbra Goes Steampunk

Penumbra's Steampunk Issue Now Released
by Dianna L. Gunn

This month's issue of Penumbra has just come out and I am amazed. I'm not too familiar with steampunk—knowing little more than that I like it and that nobody seems to give me steampunk books—so this issue of Penumbra was incredibly satisfying for me to read, like a chocolate doughnut after a week of dieting.

Let me take you on the tour...

The Fiction

The Jade Tiger by Rachael Acks—Captain Marta Ramos makes a raid on a tip and then steals her informant's most prized possession.

The Star of India by A.J. Bell—René Santiago learns that he is not the best thief in the world.

Song of passing grief by James Beamon—the song of a woman's loss leads Russian soldiers to their doom.

The Time Maching by Stephen Smith—Harlan goes back in time again and again, until he can't make it back in one piece.

A Thousand Words by Shannon Leight—A photographer whose camera discovers secrets finds her career in serious danger.

The Non-fiction

Editorials by Celina Summers and Coreen Montagna—Celina, our editorial director, introduces us to steampunk from her recovery position while Coreen Montagna, our acting director, talks about why writers need an editor.

Foglio Interview by Brandie Tarving—meet the Foglios, creators of Girl Genius, who will introduce you to the concept of gaslamp fantasy and discuss some of their more recent exploits.

Terra Incognito by Richard C. White—This month's article discusses creating a map for your world—complete with pictures of a map he's created.

Back of Beyond by Lori Basiewicz—comparing steampunk to fairytales and using examples from Girl Genius, Lori shows how steampunk writers create suspension of disbelief in their readers.

Interview with Gini Koch by Dianna L. Gunn—This month I had the opportunity to interview Gini Koch, best known for her Alien series published by DAW—and slightly less well known for several works here at Musa.

With five great stories and several non-fiction features, this month's issue of Penumbra will round out your reading list quite nicely. All you need to get your steampunk fix this month is $3.99. You can buy this issue of Penumbra here. To purchase a subscription and make sure you get your reading fix all year, click here.

DIY idea: color splash painted sneakers

Maison Martin Margiela sneakers spring 2012

With Isabel Marant sneakers been spotted everywhere this is maybe the season of expensive sneakers. I see a rising number of comfortable shoes available on the market: loafers at first and now sneakers. Designers are tempting us with comfort, what do you think? Are you ready to come down your heels to step into a pair of stylish sneakers?

If the answer is positive and you're looking for inspiration have a look at Maison Martin Margiela shoes, only partially colored. This look can be copied with a pair of white sneakers we already own and a can of spray paint. Concentrate the spray on the tip and then blend it on the lenght of the shoe. I can't wait to try it with a bright color.

Isabel Marant sneakers

Siete pronte a scendere dai tacchi?
