High fashion Halloween inspiration

Dubious about what to wear for Halloween? Get inspiration from the dark side of fashion. Spiders, phantoms, black wings, elements of the classical halloween atmosphere have acttracted many designers during the years and inspired them to create unique clothes and accessories that sometimes became collector's items like the Dsquared2 spine boots. The inspiration from the horror iconography is at times evident, other times is an unconscius mood inside the collection that contributed, along with other elements to create the image of the misterious and a little dangerous woman we often see in fashion editorials. Get a hint from these incredible collections to create your own halloween look. Be spooky and super chic.

DIY Bold Halloween headpiece: Dead by scissors

If you still have no idea on how to dress up for halloween maybe i can help you.
I went to an halloween party last night and i had to prepare a scary outfit in just one day!
I went to this party with my friends and instead of picking everyone a costume we dressed as a group. We have been "the crime scene" being keen on investigations tv series. I was the victim found dead, two of my friends were the cop, another the pathologist. I characterised the costumes with just some accessories. My costume had two pieces: the crime scene band wrapped around a little black dress and around arms and a bold headpiece: the scissors headpiece.
For the police band just take a yellow plastic roll used to cover books and slice it in stripes. Now with a permanent black marker write: "Police line do not cross" and "crime scene do not cross" or something similar like we have seen a lot of times in detective tv series!

I'm going to tell you how to make the bold headpiece in no time:
you will need:

  • plastic salad tongs
  • silver spray paint
  • black permanent marker
  • red permanent marker
  • a plastic transparent paper
  • an headband
  • transparent multi purpose glue
buy a pair of plastic salad tongs (every kitchen tool with handles similar to scissors will work, this is what i found) and cut away the fork and spoon part with a hacksaw.

Now refine the borders you have just cut cutting them between 30° and 45° these will allow you to place the scissors over your headband.

Now we want the scissors look real so we need to paint the handle part in black and the cutting part in silver.
Now cover up the handle part with some paper scotch and then spray the cutting part with the silver paint on both sides. It dries pretty quick then unfold the scotch and with the permanent marker color the handles in black.
Now it's time for blood. Take your transparent piece of paper and the red permanent marker and draw the contour of a water stain, how you imagine that fluid would spread on a surface, something like this. Draw a form that will cover most of the headband

fill it with red and then cut this form.
Now take your headband and glue the blood form over it. Put 2 or 3 points of glue and press the red piece over the headband.
Now take your scissors and place them just a little bit opened over the headband. Place them a little far from the center of the headband. Start opening the scissors and at some point the angled part of the border you've cut will match the curvied headband. Now with some patience glue the scissors over the headband.Wait a couple of hours and then when the glue is dried add other glue at the base of scissors.
And you're done!
Now you have your bold horror headpiece!
It made itself noticed in the party, absolutely!
Hope you enjoyed it!
