This winter my ankle cowboy boots took me everywhere. They are perfect with a pair of skinny jeans and a slightly oversized sweater. They give a touch of personality to a casual, relaxed outfit.
This spring we can dare a little bit more and incorporate in our wardrobe other few key items like fringed jackets and bags and  big buckles to evoke the cowboy look. See some inspiration below.

Needlepoint 2.0 : the new unconventional embroidery

Who said needlepoint is just for grannies? Balmain and Dolce&Gabbana successfully brought embroidery back on trend with their fall/winter 2012 collections. Now the big public started to love it, but let's have a look at how embroidery evolved in the past few years. Needlepoint went beyond bedsheets and fabric and now decorates any surface from porcelain to metal, virtually any pierced surface is a good surface that can be embroidered. The contrast between new materials and old techniques creates very interesting items. 
Eline Pellinkhof doesn't need needle and thread either, she borrows classic embroidery drawings and paint them on walls, but no one is a braver embroider than Miss cross stitch that, unseen by the police decorates public structures like benchs and fences, she calls it "Street embroidery".

Ingiustamente relegato nell'mmaginario comune al passato o alle coperte delle nonne (che a mio parere sono bellissime) il ricamo è tornato attuale nelle collezioni autunno inverno di Balmain e Dolce&Gabbana e viene finalmente riscoperto dal grande pubblico.  Nelle proposte dei grandi designer è floreale e molto classico ma oggi vedremo come il ricamo si fa strada nella modernità grazie alle idee dei creativi di tutto il mondo. Il ricamo va oltre i confini della stoffa ed è ormai una tecnica decorativa per le superfici più diverse, virtualmente ogni materiale traforato, che sia di metallo o di porcellana può essere ricamato e il contrasto tra il "vecchio e il nuovo" crea oggetti interessanti.  Eline Pellinkhof ricama senza ago nè filo, prende in prestito disegni classici come le rose per creare decori murali mentre Miss cross stitch rende più belli gli arredi urbani un punto alla volta con le sue incursioni non autorizzate in parchi e piazze europee inaugurando un nuovo tipo di street art.

Virtually any surface that is regularly pierced can be embroidered like vases, magazine racks, chairs and so on.

 Laser cut clothes invaded fall pret a porter. The new embroidery has been released from the richness of the decorations and became easier to wear. Leather makes it modern and fresh. The see through effect is chic because it shows the right amount of skin.
Even without an expensive laser cut machine we can obtain the same effect with a pair of classic scissors.

How to make an embroidered top without embroider: A Tutorial

DIY embroidered top

Last friday we talked about  rich and sophisticated embroideries and how they are so popular for fall. We also saw a few tricks to obtain beautiful embroideries without actually embroider.
I couldn't wait to have my embroidered top so I made (another) peplum and  today I'll show you how to make this rich embroidery in less than an hour.

You'll need:

• a top
• a centerpiece
• iron on interfacing or bondaweb

La settimana scorsa abbiamo parlato di qualche trucco per realizzare un top ricamato senza saper ricamare. Non ho resistito a realizzare subito il mio ed oggi vi mostrerò come realizzare un ricamo elaborato in meno di un'ora.

Avrete bisogno di:

• un top
• un centrotavola ricamato
• telina termoadesiva o bondaweb 

Start with a top and an embroidered center piece.

Put the interfacing over the wrong side or the embroidery. The shiny side has glue on it.

Disponete la telina sul rovescio del ricamo. Quel luccichio che vedete non è altro che colla.

Iron the interfacing. The glue will melt and it will stick on the fabric.
Once the interfacing is on, the fabric won't unthread and you'll be able to cut the embroideries off without damaging them.

Stirate la telina. La colla sciogliendosi si attaccherà al ricamo. A questo punto potete tagliare via il ricamo dal centrotavola perchè non sfilerà più.

Place the embroideries wherever you want.
Differently from the classic interfacing, bondaweb is a double-sided adhesive that bond fabrics together simply by ironing. Once you place your embroideries you can iron them on and that's it,you've done!


If you haven't bondaweb you can just stich the embroideries onto the top (or use a fabric glue).

Since my embroidery is made by flowers and leaves I decided to connect them with branches so I drawn a line with a pencil and I made a basic embroidery Outline Stitch, here's how to do it:

You'll need embroidery thread. This is moulinè. 

Disponete i ricami a piacimento. Bondaweb, a differenza della telina classica ha la colla su due lati quindi basterà stirare i ricami sul top per incollarli. Se avete utilizzato invece la telina cuciteli sul top oppure fissateli con una colla per la stoffa.

Visto che il ricamo che ho scelto è composto da fiori e foglie ho voluto connetterli con dei rami realizzati a punto erba. Ecco come ho fatto:

Make the first stitch and come out with the needle at the middle and repeat.

Stitches are close to each other, slightly overlapped.

Eseguite un punto ed uscite con l'ago a metà. Ripetete. 

I punti sono vicini l'uno a l'altro e leggermente sovrapposti.

This is how it looks once done.

Ecco come appare il punto una volta finito.

How to make an embroidered top without embroider

The more elaborate the embroidery, the higher the price. Is there a way to make embroidered piece of cloth without knowing how to embroider? Here's 4 ideas to make your customized top easily and inexpensively.

Un top riccamente ricamato richiede ore di lavoro e chilometri di filo. Più elaborato sarà il ricamo più alto sarà il prezzo! E se esistesse un modo per realizzare un top ricamato senza saper ricamare?

 Use iron on appliques. There are many iron on or sew on embroidered appliques you can find at your local haberdashery or online. Buy several ones and then compose them as you like. Iron everything on and your custom embroidery is done in a few minutes!

Utilizzate patch ricamate Le trovate in merceria di molte forme e colori, compratene più di una e componete il ricamo a vostro piacimento sul top. Stirate le patch sul top ed avete già finito!

 Use embroidered trims. This is another kind of embroidered product you can find often on tulle or organza so the background is almost transparent and only your embroidery will show. You can sew them on your top for example at the bottom.

Usate trine ricamate  Si vendono al metro. Le trovate su tulle o organza così lo sfondo è quasi del tutto trasparente ed emergerà solo il bel ricamo. Cucitele sul bordo inferiore del vostro top.

Use embroidered fabrics. If you know how to sew, buy an embroidered fabric to make your top.

Usate stoffe ricamate Se sapete cucire potete acquistare una stoffa già ricamata e realizzare il vostro top!

Use a  embroidery machine. You don't have to own one to make a beautiful embroidery. Look for a haberdashery that has one and offers the service.  Take a picture with you and they'll make a beautiful embroidery out of it!



Usate una macchina ricamatrice. Non dovete possederne una! Basterà cercare una merceria offra il servizio di ricamo. Portate con voi un'immagine che vi piace e ve la trasformeranno in un ricamo!

 Since i put my eyes on Dolce&Gabbana spring 2011collection i fell in love with those cute lace dresses. Perfect for summer (worn with a sunkissed skin) the lace dress is a classic in a romantic,chic wardrobe. Spring crochet magazines are filled with patterns to make one of these but crafting one takes time and summer is already here! Lace fabrics can be expensive so a cheap alernative can be to use lace curtains or embroidered tablecloths as fabric. Don't even think to touch your grandma tablecloths embroidered with love (i know that grannies don't do this anymore, they wear miniskirts and botox!),have a look in your local market instead i'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

Per l'estate Dolce&Gabbana hanno declinato il vestito in pizzo in tante romantiche versioni. Perfetto per la stagione estiva, indossato sulla pelle dorata, il vestito in pizzo è un classico. Le riviste di uncinetto sono piene di schemi e proposte ma realizzarne uno richiede tempo e l'estate è già qui! Le stoffe di pizzo possono essere costose e una alternativa meno costosa possono essere tende in pizzo e le tovaglie ricamate usate come stoffa. Per carità non tagliate le tovaglie della nonna ricamate a mano con amore (lo so che oggi le nonne indossano minigonne e botox),cercate invece nei mercati locali,sono sicura che troverete quello che cercate.
