DIY painted plastic earrings inspired by Burberry

Being able to watch the fashion trends of next spring is inspiring and exciting. The only downside of fashion weeks is waiting six months to wear those clothes. Don't worry if you're impatient,  there's nothing you can't do with the help of your hands. Get inspiration from the runways, bring your personal touch to the design to get your own brand new accessory to wear.
Today I got inspiration from the Burberry Prorsum collection. Christopher Bailey makes modern, young clothes enriched with beautiful details that any girl just want to wear. Spring 2014 collection makes no exception. It's all played around pastel colors and big jewel decorations. It's girly and delicate as much as the fall collection is rock and strong.  Bags have a simple shape and some of them are embellished with tiny 3D plastic flowers, a detail that in my opinion can make beautiful earrings. I used a plastic bottle, nail polish and a blow dryer to make them. See how.

Burberry Prorsum spring 2014

You'll need:

• a plastic bottle
• a blow dryer
• two half beads
• nails and earrings backs
• glue
• transparent thread
• nail polish

Fold in half a piece of paper and draw half of a flower on it.
Use the pattern to cut two flowers out of the plastic bottle.

Sew the half bead at the center of the flower with the transparent thread.
Hold the flower in your hand and shape the petals with the blow dryer. Heat the plastic and fold each petal with your fingers.

Glue the earring nails at the back.

Earrings are ready. You can leave them crystal clear or you can add a touch of colour with nail polish.

Mix clear nail polish with a drop of colored one and paint the petals with the brush.

5 big rose acrylic beads
7 medium rose acrylic beads

2 size pearls
2 clasps
2 earring nails
glue
thread and needle

Occorrente:

5 perline a forma di rosa grandi

7 perline a forma di rosa piccole

perle di due dimensioni

2 moschettoni

2 chiodini per orecchini

colla

ago e filo

Knot the tread and insert small pearls. 

Annodate il filo e inserite le perline piccole.

Once arrived at the center alternate a rosette with a pearl. Continue to add pearls. 

Arrivate al centro della collana inserite le rose intervallate da una perlina. Continuate ad aggiungere perline sull'altro lato.

Finish the necklace with a clasp and a jump-ring as a closure. 

 Terminate la collana con un moschettone da un lato e un gancetto dall'altro.

Repeat the steps above to make the bracelet.

Glue the earring nail behind the small roses and the parure for your mom is done.

Ripetete gli step per realizzare il bracciale.

Incollate i chiodini per orecchini dietro due roselline più piccole e la vostra parure è pronta.

Quanto deve essere grande un diamante per poter contemplare con stupore il suo luccichio? 

Sfidiamo la caratura dei gioielli di Liz Taylor e realizziamo i diamanti più grandi mai visti. 

Stilizziamone le linee essenziali per evocarne la forma. E' la Pietra senza la pietra. Quindi tutto fumo e niente arrosto, un diamante "tutto chiacchiere e distintivo", in altre parole la forma senza la sostanza. Praticamente la definizione di superficialità ma questa volta l'assenza di sostanza è giustificata. Il diamante impossibile non luccica alla luce ma la sua forma inconfondibile è abbastanza per suscitare stupore. E' il contorno di un desiderio che si solleva dalla carta e si realizza in un oggetto tridimensionale ed essenziale ispirato alle stampe geometriche e alle illusioni prospettiche che hanno sfilato in passerella.

Easter eggs earrings DIY

Like I did in a recent post I was reflecting on how to transform  Easter atmosphere into pieces of wearable fashion so I came up with the idea of these mini egg earrings which pretend to be precious even if they're made of polymer clay.
I wanted to cover them with gold foil but then I used this metallic acrylic color that is Lefranc&Bourjois Deco Metallic. I had it in my stash but I completely forgot about it. It gives a nice metallic finish when dried.

You'll need:

• polymer clay 
• metallic acrylic color
• mini crystals
• earrings nails and backs
• glue 

 Si può trasformare l'atmosfera pasquale in ready to wear?  E' la domanda che aleggia anche nell'ultimo post in cui mi sono divertita a scegliere abiti dei colori della glassa e con la morbidezza dei conigli. Gli orecchini di oggi si ispirano al simbolo più classico della Pasqua, l'uovo. Anche se sembrano dei piccoli cioccolatini incartati nella carta dorata, questi orecchini sono fatti d'argilla polimerica e dipinti con l'acrilico metallizzato. Ho utilizzato Lefranc&Bourjois Deco Metallic; ve lo suggerisco perchè la lucentezza del colore una volta asciutto è notevole; e dire che giaceva dimenticato nella mia scatola dei colori. Per realizzare questi orecchini vi serviranno:

• argilla polimerica (questa asciuga all'aria)
• acrilico metallizzato
• cristalli
• chiodini e chisure per orecchini
• colla

Make a ball with clay and press it at the top to give it an egg shape and let it dry

Fate una pallina con l'argilla e schiacciatela in punta per darle la forma di un uovo - lasciatela asciugare

Burberry Prorsum fall 2013

I often appreciate Burberry Prorsum collections and the one that just walked the runway is no exception.
There are so many details that renew the classic Burberry trench and make the collection young and fresh, like sheer pencil skirts or the heart pattern over neutral beige or the metallic details.
I really liked bags and coats decorated with eyelets and fringes and I immediately imagined that detail becoming a  fun pair of earrings.
So here's the DIY tutorial.

La collezione di Burberry Prorsum è giovane e fresca,  piena di spunti creativi come la trasparenza delle gonne, la stampa a cuoricini sui cappotti e i dettagli metallici che spiccano sui toni neutri.
Molto originale l'ampio uso degli occhielli come decorazione di capispalla ed accessori. Un particolare che mi ha colpito più degli altri adatto ad essere trasformato in un divertente paio di orecchini.

You'll need:

• 2 eyelets 2 cm wide
• a scrap of leather
• scissors
• glue
• earring nails and backs

Occorrente:

• 2 occhielli di 2 cm di diametro
• un ritaglio di pelle
• forbici
• colla
• chiodini per orecchini

Start by applying an eyelet on leather. There is a tool often sold with the eyelets.
Put leather between the top and the bottom part of the eyelet and press everything with the tool You may need to hammer it.

Applicate l'occhiello sulla pelle. Spesso troverete l'applicatore nella confezione d'acquisto.

Cut leather along the edge of the eyelet and then cut it straight down.

Tagliate la pelle lungo il bordo dell'occhiello.

Use scissors to fray the ends.
Glue e piece of leather behind the eyelet and trim the edge.

Sfrangiate la pelle con le forbici.
Incollate un pezzetto di pelle dietro l'occhiello e rifilate il bordo.

Glue an earring nail on the back and you've done. Have fun wearing your new pair of earrings!

Incollate il chiodino. Uscite con il vostro nuovo paio di orecchini!

Dolce&Gabbana are the ambassadors of the italian lifestyle in the world. This time they used  pasta to make fun and mediterranean pieces of jewelry. Taking inspiration from their work I used pasta,chili pepper beads and artificial leaves. Take a note of the ingredients and follow the tutorial to make your pair of tasty  earrings!

Dolce&Gabbana  ci invitano a riscoprire uno dei simboli dell'italianità all'estero: la pasta. Non dovete temere per la linea però, i grandi stilisti non ci invitano a mangiarla bensì ad indossarla sottoforma di divertenti accessori.

Proprio ispirandomi alla loro collezione p/e 2012 ho utilizzato pasta,peperoncini e una foglia di basilico per realizzare questi orecchini. Segnatevi gli ingredienti e seguite il tutorial per realizzare i vostri orecchini da mangiare con gli occhi!

• Pasta
• chili pepper beads (previosly used to make the floating claw ring)

 Avrete bisogno di:

• farfalle di pasta
• perline a forma di peperoncini
• foglie artificiali
• gancetti per gli orecchini
• una catenella
• pinze

• 4 coppette dorate
• anellini di congiunzione
• vernice trasparente
• filo metallico

 

1 piece and 2 different uses. Flatten the bead cap with a hammer to obtain a star shaped finding then cut it in the middle to create the perfect bead cap for the chili peppers, press it in position

la coppetta si fa in 2: schiacciate la coppetta dorata con un martello per ottenere un nuovo charm a forma di stella.  Tagliate la stella al centro per ottenere un decoro per i peperoncini.

Premete la stellina sul peperoncino per decorarne la sommità.

 

 Connect the chili pepper beads and an artificial leaf to a piece of chain using jumprings. 

Connettete i peperoncini alla catenella utilizzando gli anelli di congiunzione

Apply a coat of transparent paint over your pasta to make it waterproof. It will look oily like just been dressed. Pierce your pasta in the middle with a driller. Insert ithe metallic wire into the hole and make a tiny loop at each end. Add the earring hooks and you've done!

Impermeabilizzate la pasta con uno strato di vernice trasparente. Oltre a proteggerla nel tempo le donerà un aspetto oleoso ed appetitoso. Forate la pasta con il trapano. Inserite il filo metallico nel foro e fate una cappiolina ad ogni estremità con l'aiuto delle pinze. Connettete la pasta ai peperoncini. Finite aggiungendo i ganci per gli orecchini.

2 accessories in 1: when sunglasses and earrings got together

It's hard to rethink a functional accessory like sunglasses. The brand Raffaella Di Montalban courageously took off the sidepieces and replaced them with a strand of semi precious stones. The new embellished arms swing as you move and decorate the ear just like earrings.   I think that is a brilliant mash-up that begs to be DIY-ed. If you've got a old pair of sunglasses whose arms are broken well, they are the perfect candidate for this transformation. So get

• a pair of sunglasses
• a necklace
• 2 heavy charms or stones
• pliers
• jump rings

Cut the necklace in half.
Connect the pieces together using jump rings and pliers. The trick to make this DIY work is to put at the end of the necklace-arms two heavy charms to ensure that sunglasses will stay on your nose!

E' difficile ripensare un accessorio funzionale come gli occhiali. Il brand Raffella di Montalban però ci prova sostituendo le classiche stanghette con due fili di pietre colorate che adornano con grazia l'orecchio proprio come un paio di orecchini. L'incontro tra questi due accessori così amati dalle donne è perfettamente riuscito, il risultato è un occhiale curioso e di classe che forse possiamo realizzare anche noi in casa. Utilizziamo un paio di occhiali con le stanghette rotte o lente.

Avrete bisogno di:

• un paio di occhiali  
• una collana
• due charms pesanti
• pinze

Tagliate a metà la collana e connettetela alla montatura degli occhiali utilizzando gli anellini metallici. Il trucco per la buona riuscita del progetto è di connettere alla collana due ciondoli pesanti così da assicurarci che gli occhiali rimangano ben saldi sul naso!

Firstly I'll give you a good excuse to buy new nail polish. From now on we are not only using them to paint our nails but also as a diy secret weapon. New shades for nails are out very often. There are almost an infinite variety of colours, some very sophisticated, chromed or iridesents, with glitters. The vast majority of nail polishes are inexpensive and sold in small sized bottles, perfect for your diy projects. Shortly nail polish can be a good alternative to paint sometimes: it's cheaper and you can buy it almost everywhere. Let's face it: we'll always have more bottles of nail varnish than cans of paint.
In addiction I'll show you a little trick to keep rounded surfaces from rolling while you paint them. 

Oggi vi mostrerò come trasformare delle innocue perle in un paio di orecchini decisamente aggressivi.

Ma prima vorrei fornirvi una buona scusa per comprare altri smalti per le unghie. Anche se pensati per decorare le nostre unghie, a volte gli smalti possono essere una furba alternativa alla vernice. Pensateci: esistono in mille colori diversi, alcuni molto sofisticati, cangianti o pieni di glitter; sono venduti in piccole dosi, perfette per i vostri progetti fai da te e spesso sono economici. E poi ammettiamolo: avremo sempre più bottigliette di smalto in casa che lattine di vernice. 

In più vi mostrerò un piccolo trucco per impedire alle superfici tonde di rotolare mentre le dipingete.

 ho usato delle punte in plastica ricavate da delle forchette da cocktail che precedentemente avevo usato per realizzare degli orecchini trasparenti

 

To keep pearls and other stuff from rolling while you're painting them you can temporarily glue them on a piece of paper using the glue gun

Per evitare che le superfici tonde rotolino mentre le dipingete potete incollarle temporanemente su un pezzetto di carta con della colla a caldo

 

Your sparkly nail polish will make these pearls shine

Il vostro smalto glitterato farà risplendere le perle

 

 

Good pearls gone bad: Paint the plastic forks pieces with black nail polish and then glue them onto the pearls

Stendete lo smalto nero sulle punte e poi incollatele sulla perla

Once everything is dry insert the metallic wire into the pearl and make a loop with pliers. Connect the spiky pearl to a piece of chain. Add a earring hook and you've done.

Quando la colla sarà asciutta  inserite nella perla il filo metallico e realizzate un gancetto. Collegate la vostra "mina" ad un pezzetto di catenella e la catenella ad un gancio per gli orecchini.
