Lock it bag inspired hand cuff DIY

Only a cuff, a snap hook and a chain are necessary to secure a clutch to our wrist. Today's quick DIY project is inspired by Louis Vuitton Lock-it bag designed by Marc Jacobs to point out the strong connection between a woman and her purse, an observation transformed in a killer look. The cuff I used makes this DIY particulary easy, in fact it is pierced and allows us to connect it to a chain. I found it at H&M.

Un bracciale, una catenella e un moschettone bastano per assicurare la pochette al polso e ricreare così il look pensato da Marc Jacobs per sottolineare l'intima connessione tra una donna e la sua borsa, una riflessione che si traduce in un look decisamente accattivante e moderno. Ho trovato il bracciale utilizzato in questo DIY a H&M. Come potete vedere è forato permettendoci così di connetterlo ad una catenella senza difficoltà.

rimuovete la catenella di chiusura

I used snap hooks to make the chain detachable so it can be connected to any bag.

Connettete il moschettone più grande ad un'estremità della catenella e quello più piccolo (precedentemente rimosso dal bracciale) al lato opposto.

and the big one to your clutch.  

 Potete ora agganciare il bracciale da un lato e la pochette dall'altro.

DIY idea: tribal necklace with safety pins

Level 1: Your first DIY project: this necklace is made inserting a safety pin after another into a thread. Another thread can be inserted into the bottom loop of the pin.

Level 2 : Pins can be decorated with beads: open the pin and insert you beads into the needle; closing the pin you can be sure the beads will stay in place.

Here is Anna Dello Russo wearing Darth Vader mask a hat that remains me an oyster. Like the oyster hides a pearl inside, this hat holds a secret, a cave full of sequins. The shape of this hat is definitely too dramatic for daily use but Nicolas Gesquiere, with his daring design, gives us a precious DIY tip : decorate the inside instead of the outside of an hat. You'll be able to make a unique hat, a jewel for your head.

Stella MCartney inspired cut out dress with wavy hem DIY

Yesterday we talked about wavy hems and how they are trending this spring. I really appreciated how Stella MCartney incorporated curled hems in her spring 2012 collection. Today I'll show you how to diy a similar dress cutting out one you already own. I will also show you a crochet technique to make a cord I used to decorate the dress: it's called the romanian cord (or european macramè).

Start with a long sleeve dress. I made my dress from scratch because I had a very cute piece of fabric that was perfect for this project. The project is all about cutting out so a dress you already own will be fine.

I put my dress on my diy dress form (or just wear the dress). Highlighted in the pic you can see the part of the fabric you have to cut it out. Start cutting on the shoulders, 1 inch far from the neckline, cut off the cleavage untill the armhole. Also cut off one sleeve.

 Now let's decorate it! Stella MCartney's dress is heavy embroidered along the neckline and along the hem. To imitate this embroidery I made a few meters of crochet cord (but you can also buy a cord or a cute trim). This cord is called romanian cord (or european macramè) and it's easy to do if you know the basics of crochet, click on this link to learn how to do the romanian cord.

DIY idea: embellished head to toe

Fireworks inspired Dolce&Gabbana spring 2012 collection.The pyrotechnic lights are reproduced on clothes with big,colored stones. Dresses become giant jewels. The keyword is exagerate with embellishes.If you want to reproduce this look  you have two options: hot fix iron on rhinestones that you can glue on a garment with iron or flat back rhinestones; search those that are pirched and can be used like beads. You can sew them on a cloth with needle and thread.

Jen asked how to reproduce Selena Gomez bejewelled look  in Love me like a love song video.
In order to copy her look take a plain corset or a corset tutu dress and decorate it with the rhistones above. Iron on rhinestuds are easier to handle: just place them wherever you want on the corset and press the hot iron on. If you have more time and patience choose flat back rhinestones and sew them on the corset ( you might be able to find them bigger than iron on ones). Big sequins can also be an option. I also found a couple of ready to buy inspired looks. If you have any question feel free to ask.

Dolce&Gabbana hanno ricoperto i loro abiti di veri e propri gioielli evocando i fuochi d'artificio dei giorni di festa. Un look fastoso che può essere copiato con un po' di pazienza e tanti strass da incollare  con il ferro da stiro o stras piatti e forati da cucire come perline.

Jen mi ha chiesto come riprodurre il look di Selena Gomez nel video Love me like a love song. Partendo da un corsetto semplice basterà posizionare a piacimento gli strass e poi incollarli con il ferro caldo oppure dare un'occhiata a i look che ho scovato ispirati a quello della cantante.

Once Richard Burton said of her wife: 'The only word she knows in Italian is Bulgari'. Liz Taylor jewels are well known for being some of the most precious, bold and expensive ever seen. She also spoke about her passion for jewelry in the book:'My love affair with jewelry'. Her collection, called for the occasion "The crown jewels of Hollywood" just went on auction at Christies . The price of her jewels skyrocked above any prediction, proving the high added value of buying something worn buy one of the most shining stars of Hollywood.

Today's DIY is about creating a very bold necklace with very low budget, nothing comparable to Liz jewels of course, just something that that will look luxurious. You judge if the experiment was successful or not.

 La collana che ho realizzato oggi si ispira a gioielli regali, non è certo confrontabile con quelli di Liz ma si ispira ad essi. E' stata realizzata utilizzando delle decorazioni natalizie, troverete il tutorial di seguito.

vi serviranno: pietre ottagonali, decorazioni natalizie color ghiaccio, una catenella,

un moschettone, colla, un foglio di plastica

Glue a stone at the center of the ornament
Incollate un pietra al centro dei decori

glue a stone on a piece of plastic sheet, make a hole at each side of the plastic

Connect all the pieces with jump rings

Close the necklace with a piece of chain

add a clasp at the end

Incollate delle pietre al centro di un pezzetto di plastica, forate entrambi i lati

connettete gli elementi con degli anellini metallici

chiudete la collana con una catenella

aggiungete un moschettone come chiusura

How to make earrings with buttons

I needed a pair of earrings to wear with my lion bracelet so I made these, you'll find the tutorial below, I hope you'll like it!

Ho creato questi orecchini da indossare con il mio bracciale animalier, troverete il tutorial di seguito, spero vi piaccia!
 

you'll need:

2 gold buttons

2 earrings hooks

2 clamps

a pincher

1 meter of cobra chain

gold metallic wire

Vi servono:

2 bottoni dorati

2 ganci per orecchini

2 morse

2 cerchietti di filo metallico

una pinza

1 metro di catenella cobra

filo metallico dorato

 

 Wrap the wire around the button then make two loops 

Avvolgete il filo metallico intorno al bottone e formate due gancetti 

Using scissors cut the cobra chain in pieces of the same lenght

Usando le forbici tagliate la catenella in segmenti della stessa lunghezza 

Block the chain pieces squeezing the clamp with the pincher

Usando la pinza schiacciate la morsa sulle catenelle

Connect the button to the clamp and to the earring hook with two jump rings.

Connettete il bottone alla morsa e al gancetto per orecchini utilizzando due cerchietti di filo metallico
