#DIYBFW day 3: D&G inspired scarf dress DIY

Finally is my turn to house the party! For day 3 of #DIY bloggers fashion week I would like to show you how to turn a big scarf into a wearable dress without using any pattern.

Scarves add a chic touch to any outfit. They can be worn around the neck or wrapped around bag handles. They usually have the most beautiful prints so why don't wear them as dresses instead of accessories? D&G latest collection is built around this idea. Taking inspiration from their show I transformed my scarf into a dress basically cutting 2 armholes and sewing it at the center! See how I made it.

Oggi voglio mostrarvi come trasformare un foulard in un vestito ispirato all'ultima collezione D&G. I foulard aggiungono colore e danno un tocco ricercato a qualunque outfit. Possono essere indossati intorno al collo ma anche annodati intorno i manici di una borsa. Perchè non indossarli come abito allora? Ci sono molti modi di annodare un foulard per farlo sembrare un top o una gonna ma oggi vi mostrerò come trasformare definitivamente un foulard in un abito smanicato ritagliando due fori per le maniche e cucendolo al centro.




You'll need:

• a rope
• scissors 

• a dress form (discover how to DIY a dress form with duct tape here)or the help of a friend 
• a big scarf  how big? You have to be able to wrap it around you. Such scarves can be found in places like H&M or if you can't find one you can always sew two scarves together.

Avrete bisogno di:

• forbici
• una corda
• un manichino da sarta (potete realizzarlo da sole con lo scotch!! non ci credete? trovate il tutorial qui!)
• un grande foulard. Quanto grande? Praticamente largo quanto la circonferenza fianchi. Dovete riuscire ad avvolgerlo intorno al corpo. Potete trovare grandi foulard ad H&M o potete cucire due foulard insieme per ottenerne uno più grande.

This is my scotch tape dress form ugly but useful.
Appuntate con gli spilli la corda per "disegnare" il girocollo, la linea delle spalle e il giromanica.

Avvolgete il manichino con la sciarpa. Fate attenzione che l'orlo del vestito sia dritto. Tenetelo ben fermo appuntandolo con gli spilli davanti e dietro

E' ora di usare le forbici: toccando il foulard sentite dove si trova la corda e usatela come guida per tagliare. Ritagliate il girocollo, la linea delle spalle e il giromanica.

Cucite la linea delle spalle e il foulard al centro! Aggiungete una zip sul davanti per indossare comodamente l'abito. Ed avete finito. Potete uscire con il nuovo vestito.

Finish the edges with zig zag stitch or with hand stich.
This dress can be worn alone or with a belt at the waist or even using another scarf as belt.

Alzi la mano chi decide quali scarpe indossare prima di tutto il resto! Io, per esempio. Succede quando nel guardaroba le scarpe sono il tuo accessorio preferito! If you flip through the pages of a fashion magazine in these days you may have noticed there's a lot of lace going on. I couldn't resist this super feminine trend so today I'll show you how I made my own lace skirt. You'll need

• a skirt 
• lace trim (sold in yards)

I chose to apply white lace onto a pink skirt to exalt it. Doesn't this skirt look like made of sugar?

Sfogliando le riviste di moda in questi giorni avrete notato l'onnipresenza del pizzo! Chi può resistere ad un look così femminile? Oggi vi mostrerò come ho realizzato la mia nuova gonna in pizzo. Vi serviranno:

• una gonna
• una striscia di pizzo a metraggio

Scegliete il pizzo di un colore diverso dalla gonna per metterlo in evidenza.

Seguitemi per il tutorial.

 

I chose to use a wide lace trim and I found it in a lace curtain with repeated design.

Ho deciso di utilizzare una striscia in pizzo alta e ben visibile e l'ho trovata in una tenda con un motivo ripetitivo

 

I cut the curtain into bands

Ho ricavato le striscie ritagliando la tenda.

 

I then pinned the lace band onto the skirt. You can now make a straight seam to sew the lace on the skirt.

Appuntate con degli spilli la striscia in pizzo sulla gonna e poi eseguite una cucitura per fissarlo.

 

Repeat the process until the skirt is fully covered. 

Ripetete il procedimento fino a ricoprire completamente la gonna.

DIY idea: convertible zipper jacket

Burberry Prorsum meets Chanel in this Zara jacket that brings today's DIY inspiration. The top and the bottom of this blazer are connected by a zipper. This look can be easily applied to a blazer we already own:

1. cut the blazer in two pieces 
2. buy a double zipper as long as the cutoutline and sew it on it

Our blazer can become two different jackets if you cut it below the bust line: it can be a schrug to wear over a pretty dress or, closing the zipper, a chic blazer wearable over your jeans.

Burberry Prorsum incontra Chanel in questa giacca Zara che ci suggerisce il progetto fai da te di oggi.  La parte superiore della giacca è connessa a quella inferiore con una zip a doppio cursore. Questo look si può replicare su una giacca che già possediamo.

1. Tagliate in due la giacca
2. cucite una zip sulla linea di taglio

Tagliando la giacca corta, sotto il seno, la giacca può essere indossata sia come coprispalle su un vestito elegante o, chiudendo la zip, come giacca chic da indossare sul jeans.

Yellow is an energetic color I feel the urge to wear as soon as the sun gets warmer and spring comes closer. It's a color that lifts the spirit and recharge our batteries. If you want to give a fresh start to the day don't forget to put some yellow in your outfit. Lemon, lime, neon are all all fashionable shades this spring.
Have fun mixing it with bold patterns and different materials. Speaking of different materials, pu leather,thankfully the much cheaper cousin of real leather, seems to be back on trend and Asos shows us a fun yellow (plastic) jacket that I definitely would like to wear. Have you seen the bold printed trousers by MSGM? I'm dying to wear a pair of those too!

Today is Women's day and yellow is also the color of  mimosa, the symbol flower of the day. The 8th of March is the launch of Marni for H&M collection a day to celebrate more than hundred years of social activism to achieve equality of genders.

Il giallo è un colore energetico che ci viene voglia di indossare non appena il sole diventa più caldo e la primavera si avvicina. Se anche voi volete un'iniezione di buon umore non dimenticate di aggiungere un po' di giallo al vostro look. Potete scegliere una nuance pastello o un giallo neon, sono entrambe di moda questa primavera. Divertitevi ad abbinare il giallo a stampe vistose o optate per un sofisticato abbinamento di stoffe di tipo diverso. Ad esempio potete orientarvi sul pvc o sulla pelle sintetica, fortunatamente entrambi più economici della vera pelle e tornati molto di moda potranno aggiungere dei riflessi lucidi al vostro outfit. Asos ci propone una giacca in plastica gialla molto interessante mentre MSGM ci stupisce con dei pantaloni con maxi stampa geometrica davvero sorprendenti.

Oggi è la festa della donna e giallo è anche il colore delle mimose, fiori simbolo di questa celebrazione. L'8 Marzo è il giorno del lancio della collezione Marni per H&M un giorno per celebrare oltre cento anni di attivismo sociale per ottenere l'uguaglianza dei generi.

Marni for H&M inspired necklace with recycled plastic DIY

 

If I had to pick something from Marni collaboration with H&M definitely would be an accessory. I really like the bold necklaces and bracelets that will be available in selected H&M stores in two days. I expecially like how plastic has been used. Today I get back to you with another tutorial on how to recycle plastic packages and use them to make a necklace. If you want to make the necklace like mine have a look around the house and search for white plastic packages. I used empty orbit gum bottles (nothing is safe from my crafty mania).

Nella collezione disegnata da Marni per H&M gli accessori sono i pezzi che preferisco e in particolare i gioielli realizzati in plastica lucida e opaca che spiccano sulle stampe geometriche. Marni arriverà in negozi H&M selezionati l'8 Marzo. Nel frattempo vorrei mostrarvi come riciclare dei contenitori di plastica bianca che avete in casa e utilizzarli per realizzare una collana.

I heated the plastic just enough to make it moldable

I pressed the petal with two fingers to curve it
Ho schiacciato tra due dita i petali per curvarli

I put together the flower sewing it with invisible thread
Ho composto il fiore cucendo i petali con il filo invisibile

I made ten flowers
Ho realizzato dieci fiori

I sewed a small piece of leather on the back of the flower and then I inserted all the flowers into a leather thread
Ho cucito un pezzetto di pelle sul retro dei fiori e li ho infilati in un laccetto di pelle

What better way to start Sunday if not with some shoe shopping? Spring shoes are fresh as sorbets, ready to quench our thirst of shopping. Here I listed some of my favorite pastel ones.

It's an unusual leather skirt the one designed by Acne for spring summer 2012.  It can be made just cutting out star shapes from your leather skirt and no sewing is required. That's why leather is a fantastic diy material: it does not rip off!

E' una gonna originale quella disegnata da Acne per la primavera 2012. Può essere realizzata ritagliando delle stelle dalla vostra gonna in pelle. Non sarà necessario cucire nulla perchè la pelle non sfila e questo la rende una perfetta materia prima per i nostri fashion diy.

Stella MCartney inspired cut out dress with wavy hem DIY

Yesterday we talked about wavy hems and how they are trending this spring. I really appreciated how Stella MCartney incorporated curled hems in her spring 2012 collection. Today I'll show you how to diy a similar dress cutting out one you already own. I will also show you a crochet technique to make a cord I used to decorate the dress: it's called the romanian cord (or european macramè).

Start with a long sleeve dress. I made my dress from scratch because I had a very cute piece of fabric that was perfect for this project. The project is all about cutting out so a dress you already own will be fine.
Ready to start? Follow me after the jump.

I put my dress on my diy dress form (or just wear the dress). Highlighted in the pic you can see the part of the fabric you have to cut it out. Start cutting on the shoulders, 1 inch far from the neckline, cut off the cleavage untill the armhole. Also cut off one sleeve.

 Now let's decorate it! Stella MCartney's dress is heavy embroidered along the neckline and along the hem. To imitate this embroidery I made a few meters of crochet cord (but you can also buy a cord or a cute trim). This cord is called romanian cord (or european macramè) and it's easy to do if you know the basics of crochet, click on this link to learn how to do the romanian cord.

Have you learned how to make a perfect straight hem? Well done but now forget about it. Spring hems are wavy,asymmetrical,shorter on one side more than another. Taking spring 2012 runways looks as inspiration we can have fun cutting out wavy hems from skirts and dresses.

Avete imparato a realizzare un orlo perfettamente dritto? Ottimo lavoro ma ora dimenticatelo. Gli orli primaverili sono ondulati, asimmetrici, più lunghi da un lato. Prendendo spunto dalle sfilate primaverili divertiamoci a ritagliare orli ondulati su gonne ed abiti. Cominciate a dare un po' di movimento all'orlo della vostra gonna dando un'occhiata al tutorial per realizzare una gonna a portafoglio con l'orlo arrotondato.
